# Link pins to products

> Connect an image on a pinboard to a product in your library, so the picture carries price, vendor and lead time with it.

A pin is just an image until you link it to a product. Once linked, it
stops being a picture and becomes the actual piece — with its vendor, its
price, its lead time and its history.

## Why bother

* **The client sees the real thing** — Approving a linked pin approves a
  specific product, not "something like this".
* **It moves straight to a schedule** — No re-finding the piece, re-typing
  the price or hunting for the vendor page.
* **Prices stay in one place** — Update the product in the library and
  every board referencing it is current.
* **You can trace it later** — Six months on, *which sofa was on that
  board?* has an answer.

## Link a pin

Select the pin and choose the product from your library. Search by name or
brand.

If the piece is not in the library yet, add it first — import from URL,
capture with the Chrome extension, or add manually.

## What a linked pin gains

On the schedule side, the two small icons beside a product name are the
visible result: one opens the vendor's page, the other jumps to the
pinboard the product was presented on. That second one is worth the linking
on its own — it answers *where did we show the client this?* without
anybody searching.

  Link as you build, not afterwards. Going back through a finished board
  hunting for which lamp was which is the kind of job that never gets done.
