# The product library

> Every product your studio has specified, in one searchable catalogue shared across all projects.

The product library is studio-wide. A product you add on one project is
available on every other one, with its brand, price, dimensions, finish and
images intact. Specify a piece once; reuse it for years.

Find it under **Library → Products**.

## What the list shows

| Column         | Notes                                                                                                            |
| -------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Product** | Thumbnail, name, and the vendor SKU or ASIN underneath. The icon beside the name opens the original vendor page. |
| **Brand** | The manufacturer or retailer. |
| **Unit price** | Retail price per unit, in your studio currency. |
| **Used in** | Which projects and pinboards this product appears on. Empty means nothing is using it yet. |

The header shows how many products your studio holds — *411 products in
your studio*.

## Search

The search box matches on name and brand. It searches the whole library,
not the current page, so there is no need to scroll first.

<Tip>
  Before adding a product, search for it. Atelier does not de-duplicate
  automatically, and two copies of the same sofa at two different prices is a
  slow problem to unpick.
</Tip>

## Three ways to add a product

* **Import from URL** — Paste a vendor product page. Atelier pulls out the
  name, brand, price, dimensions and images.
* **Chrome extension** — Capture products as you browse, without leaving the
  vendor's site.
* **Add manually** — For trade pieces, bespoke joinery and anything without
  a public page.

**Import from URL** and **Add product** both sit at the top right of the
library.

## What a product record holds

| Field                | Used for                                                                     |
| -------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Name | Everywhere the product appears. |
| Brand | Grouping, filtering, purchase orders. |
| Category | How schedules group rows — *Furniture*, *Decor*, *Lighting*. |
| Type                 | Finer classification within a category.                                      |
| Material, Finish | Shown on the schedule Planning view and in specifications. |
| Dimensions           | Free text — keep your studio's convention consistent.                        |
| Unit price, Currency | The retail price. Vendor cost and markup are set per schedule row, not here. |
| Supplier | Who you buy it from. |
| Product URL | The vendor page, linked from the list. |
| Images | Several per product; the first is the one shown everywhere else. |
| Description | Notes and spec detail. |

<Info>
  Pricing lives in two places on purpose. The **library** holds the retail
  price — what the piece generally costs. A **schedule row** holds what you
  are paying the vendor on this job and what you are charging this client.
  Changing a schedule row never rewrites the library.
</Info>

## Where products get used

Once a product is in the library it can be:

* placed on a **pinboard** and linked to a pin, so the client sees the real
  piece;
* added as a row on an **FF\&E schedule**, where it picks up quantity, room,
  markup, tax and procurement status.

The **Used in** column tells you which. It is also a safety net — check it
before you change a price on something that is already in front of a
client.
