# Task details

> Inside a single task — description, to-dos, priority, dates, assignees and comments.

Opening a task gives you the full record: what needs doing, who is doing
it, by when, and everything that has been said about it.

## The fields

| Field | Notes |
| --------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Title** | What needs doing. A verb helps — *Order the dining chairs* beats *Dining chairs*. |
| **Description** | Context, links, decisions. Anything the person doing the work will need. |
| **Status** | To Do, In Progress, In Review, Done. Matches the board columns. |
| **Priority** | For sorting and filtering when the list gets long. |
| **Start date** | When work can begin. Drives the Timeline view. |
| **Due date** | When it must be finished. Overdue tasks surface in **My tasks**. |
| **Assignees** | One or several. Determines whose **My tasks** it lands in. |
| **Project** | Which job it belongs to. Tasks created from Home without one are standalone. |

## To-dos

A checklist inside the task. Use it when a task is really several small
steps that don't each deserve their own card:

* *Order the dining chairs* → confirm fabric · get final quote · raise PO ·
  send deposit

Ticking items off shows progress without anyone having to ask. When a
to-do turns out to be a day's work, promote it to its own task.

<Tip>
A task with eight to-dos and no assignee is a project, not a task. Split
  it.
</Tip>

## Assignees

Assigning is what makes a task visible — it moves the task into that
person's **My tasks** and starts counting against their overdue list. An
unassigned task exists on the board and in nobody's day.

Several assignees are allowed. One is usually better: shared ownership is
how things get dropped politely.

Assigning someone notifies them — it shows up in their **Inbox**, the
same feed that carries client activity from pinboards.

## Comments and activity

The comment thread keeps the conversation attached to the work rather than
in email — and a reply, or a reaction to your comment, notifies the
people involved the same way. Alongside it, an activity stream records
what changed and when
— status moves, reassignments, date changes.

Useful when you pick a task up cold and need to know why the due date
moved twice.

## From the assistant

Tasks are among the things Atelier's AI can create and update directly —
*add a task to chase the Holly Hunt order, due Friday, assign it to me*.
